Learning the Language of the Spirit: A Journey to Divine Communication

Updated: Jul 8

Understanding God's Communication

Learning the language of the Spirit is a wonderful journey! I'm incredibly excited to embark on this exploration with you. We will dive into the profound and practical ways God communicates with us. At the heart of this journey is a fundamental truth: God is always speaking. If you've felt like you can't hear Him, it's often not because He has stopped speaking. Instead, it is our invitation to align ourselves with Him. We can learn to perceive what He is saying.

While we sometimes look for an audible voice, God's primary language isn’t always one we can recognize. He often speaks in a still, small voice or through our imagination. We have been given the mind of Christ, and He communicates with us most frequently through impressions, pictures, and visions. These divine communications can happen quickly—sometimes, just split-second images. We need to learn to take a risk with these fleeting thoughts.

Signs and Symbols

For example, a brief picture of a human spine might indicate God’s desire to heal someone’s back. You might see a person or simply picture a color. These images could be the beginning of a prophetic word. It is important to understand that God has many different ways of speaking. He may not use the same language with you that He does with someone else.

God doesn’t just speak once. He often delivers messages repeatedly, sometimes in waves. We are designed to pay attention to what He is saying. When we pick up on what He is highlighting, this understanding leads us to the principle of partnering with God. Once we hear what God is saying, our next step is to respond and flow with Him.

Partnering in Faith

A crucial part of learning the language of the Spirit is consistently focusing on what God is doing. We can often spend too much time dwelling on our own concerns. Shifting our focus to God helps us grow in faith and understand Him better.

Practical Steps for Improving Communication

So how can we become better at recognizing and understanding God's voice? Here are several practical steps you can take:

  • Set Aside Time for Prayer: Carve out moments during your day to focus on God. This can be in silence or during your daily tasks.

  • Practice Stillness: In our busy lives, we can forget to be still. Take time away from distractions and listen.

  • Keep a Journal: Document your thoughts, feelings, and any impressions you receive. This can help you identify patterns in how God communicates with you.

  • Seek Guidance: Surround yourself with others who are also on this journey. Engaging in discussions and prayers with fellow believers can illuminate the path.

Be Open to All Forms of Communication

I encourage you this week to actively seek to hear God in all the ways He speaks. Be open to partnering with Him in what you hear. Remember, the phrase “God is always speaking" can transform your understanding of faith. When we acknowledge that He is continually communicating, we realize that we have the opportunity to grow, learn, and connect.

This journey into the spirit is not just a one-time event. It’s a continual exploration filled with joy and discovery. Together, we can deepen our relationship with God and understand the myriad ways He speaks to us.
